Since November 2013, Stuttgart-based DEKRA Akademie GmbH, in collaboration with ROBINSON Club GmbH and Osnabrück University, and in partnership with the Hellenic-German Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Greek Manpower Employment Organization (OAED), has been implementing a pilot training programme for tourism Professions, and in particular for the following professions: hotel staff, restaurant and catering managers, and chefs. The programme comes under the actions of Germany’s Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The goal is to present new aspects of inter-business learning and training, which can significantly improve the prospect of employing young people in the ever-growing tourism market, based on the German system of dual vocational training.
The main objectives include:
The three-year vocational training programme centres on the well-known dual system that has been established for centuries in the German-speaking countries of Central Europe. Every year, learners attend the theoretical courses for five months and then do their practical training by working as apprentices at a business for seven months. In addition, there are also brief, supplementary vocational training programmes for those who have already acquired basic knowledge of a particular profession.
After passing the examinations, the Greek Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) will issue a Vocational School Apprenticeship Diploma, and the Hellenic-German Chamber will issue a qualification under the German law, which corresponds to Level 4 of the European Qualifications Framework. The Greek qualification in question will be drawn up on the basis of the Greek educational law, and will therefore be fully recognized.
The School is currently operating on a pilot basis on the premises of the OAED School in Kalamaki, Athens, and on the premises of the OAED School in Heraklion, Crete.
Overall, the Programme has expanded from 3 classes in the 2013-2014 academic year to 7 classes in total in the 2014-2015 academic year, which are divided into three second-year classes and four first-year classes
